When I got it it did not run, but with alot of work I have gotten it running but not very well, or not in my opinion. Fist thing I noticed is the electric start did not work,I found the power wire broken at the starter, new terminal fixed that. M. mcgrath. 47 posts · Joined 2009. #4 · May 3, 2010. Yep the air screw should start at 1 1/2 turns out. And idle should be at about 700rpm. You will just have to adjust the idle by sound I presume you do not have a tach. You should disassemble the carb and clean it. There could be dirt blocking one of your jets.

Aug 18, 2020 · Personally I wouldn't take a chance. I had a 96 300 Xplorer and the fan came on a lot when running hard. Towing will definitely heat it up quick. The chance you're taking is seizing the engine causing a new top end best case. One a 96 the other a 98. I tore the 98 apart and replaced the crank seals and did a top end. I also bench tested the oil pump and it worked fine.
